ABOUT MY WORK

Artist Statement

Lost in thought, I’ve learned that some ideas cannot be spoken — they must be seen.

My work showcases experimentation with traditional mediums, mark-making, and color palettes to portray varying moods and emotions. This interest in color psychology has aided me in creating these other-worldly atmospheres that give my audience a chance to wonder. Through differing media I am able to express the thoughts running through my mind visually and share my inner feelings and anxieties.

My pieces stylistically have bold and graphic qualities with imagery compiled from everyday life and other oddities I come across. Thematically, my experiences with mental health, feminism, and the ever-changing society around me serve as guides and reasons for creating. My influences include the Expressionists and their ability to put emotions into action, as well as the Surrealist movement and overall idea of letting the unconscious mind express itself.  With this, I am learning to balance my technical skills alongside the abstract traits I enjoy, as my obsessive controlling tendencies collide with my desire to freely create.

At its core, my work is a visual exploration of the intricate relationship between emotion, identity, and the surrounding world, in which a deeper understanding of the human mind is experienced.
